In exchange for the Cosmic Cube located on Earth, he was allowed to lead the powerful Chitauri army from another dimension. Loki quickly stole the Cosmic Cube from S.H.I.E.L.D. and used its power to create a "hole" above Manhattan, New York, which is the junction between another dimension and Earth.
