Description
Ao Qin is one of the four great dragon kings in Chinese mythology, and more
specifically the king of the South Sea. Under the authority of the Jade Emperor,
he wields power over the waters, winds, and sea creatures of his kingdom. His
territory, the southern sea, is characterized by tropical climates, typhoons,
and powerful natural forces, and is bordered by southern China, Vietnam, and
other countries.
Symbolically, he embodies the yang element, the summer season, and the fire
hidden in water. He is often depicted wearing a scarlet robe, with amber eyes, a
mane of foam, and obsidian claws. His underwater palace is made of red coral,
mother-of-pearl, and black jade, and is surrounded by dragon generals, golden
sharks, and giant turtles.
